Light and darkness.

Kalbert finished hooking up the digital camera and voice recorder and started downloading the files to his computer when he thought he heard a noise from the other room. He didn't think anything of it until he heard the book drop. He stood and went back into the living room and looked at Rema.

"Are you alright? What happened?

Rema shook her head, quickly gathering up her book, and several papers that had gone flying out of it

"nothing.."

She said, still breathless

Growing more concerned Kalbert went over and put a hand on the arm of the couch, watching her.

"...That doesn't look like Nothing Rema..."

Several of the papers were written in another language, those ones she gathered first and stuffed into her book, which now, was full of writing again, compared to when she was drawing in it and it was all blank.

There were several drawings, symbols, doodles, and she finally got them all, and hugged the book to her chest, muttering

"Just..remembered.."

Kalbert looked confused as he caught glimpses of all the papers and things and slowly moved around her and sat next to her on the couch.

"..Remembered...?"

He bit his lip a little, looking very worried about her.

She hugged the book closer to herself as if it would be spread all about the floor again if she let it go

"A-At one of my p-previous houses.. I drew the s-symbol and it made the spirit angry a-a-and he.."

She closed her eyes tightly, as the sky outside darkened from a storm coming in it seemed, even though on the channel it was calling for sun all day. The tv, the lights around them, even the candles in the kitchen seemed to dim a bit

Kalbert looked around as the power flickered and he put a hand on Rema's shoulder. He didn't realize his hand was shaking as he did. His voice was scared, there was no hiding it, but it was soft too, almost empathetic.

"Rema...don't remember it...i-if you don't r-really want too..."

He looked pretty scared himself, but something in his eyes seemed to just say he wasn't scared of her. He forced a smile and nodded.

"S-see that...n-no problems r-right? It's ok...maybe we should...w-worry about everything else later...and you can get some more rest?"

He slowly took his hand off her shoulder and rubbed his fingers together since they were feeling tingly from the static.

Rema shook her head, looking away and wiping her eyes with her sleeve, slowly putting the book down beside her

"No.. We need to get this done .."

She stood up, crossing her arms over her chest, still trying to take deep and slow breaths to stay calm

Kalbert chewed on his lip a bit as he slowly stood with a small nod.

"A-alright...d-do you want to...w-watch the tapes and see the picture f-first or..."

He could only glance at the kitchen and towards the basement door, hoping she wouldn't choose that.

Rema walked over to the study without even answering, and sat down slowly in one of the chairs, looking over at the computer

"If it was still in the house it could of stopped the cops from seeing certain things.."

She muttered

Kalbert slowly followed after and sat down in front of the computer. He glanced at her.

"Those chairs have rollers if you want to scoot over here..."

He turned to the computer and started messing around.

"The EVPs should be easy to find. We just have to look for sound spikes in the wavey bits."

He pointed at the screen where the sound waves were bouncing around.

"I took digital and standard pictures...we'll have to develop the regular pictures by hand upstairs...a lot of times things will show up on actual film that won't on digital pictures...and vice versa...I er...like to be...thorough."

He blushed slightly realizing he must seem like a fanatic.

Rema grinned

"Who needs a pro when youre around huh?"

Her hands seemed to be shaking slightly from before still, as she rolled the chair over to look at the screen

"There has to be something.."

Kalbert blushed quite a bit more at her comment and stared intently on the screen. He was flagging and separating each piece of sound that could be something more than just him rummaging around her room. After a few minutes he pulled out a small mp3 player and a set of headphone.

"If there were any...they'd be on here...there's about half an hour or so...you'll have to listen really hard sometimes...and...it can be...creepy..."

He slowly offered the mp3 player to her.

"Or you can watch the 2 hours of video...you're choice..."

Nodding slowly, Rema reached out and took the mp3 player and headphones, slipping them on her head.

"Ive probably heard worse"

She pulled her legs up onto the chair to hug her legs to her chest, and began to listen, closing her eyes,turning up the volume quite loud to try and catch every detail

Rema just stayed sitting as she was, listening very closely, and there was nothing for about 10 minutes, but then, she suddenly jumped and yelped, throwing down the headphones.

On them there was a high pitched scream that she could still hear even though they were on the floor.

She covered her ears quickly, her eyes closed tightly

"T-That was L-Lil.."

Rema blinked away tears in her eyes, taking in shaky breaths, her hands shaking quite a bit, as she slowly crossed her arms over her chest

"T-They're.. still there.."

Her eyes closed a bit tighter, a few tears slowly rolling down her cheeks

Kalbert got up and moved over to her, slowly draping his arm around her shoulders as he knelt down next to the chair.

"...something must be keeping there...we can help them...and release them..."

He looked at her, determined to do anything he could to help this girl he'd only met the day before. So determined it scared him a little, but he could just tell they were kindred spirits and somehow someway they were meant to run into each other yesterday. He wasn't about to fight fate when it seemed it was trying to help two people who needed helping.

Rema stayed like that for several minutes, until slowly letting go, her eyes bloodshot from the tears, as she wiped at them with her sleeve

"I-I'm..sorry.."

She sniffled a bit, taking several deep breaths

Kalbert tried to smile a little and shook his head.

"It's alright...I-I'm...a little surprised it took you so long to cry....I...would not be so strong."

He smiled a little more, hoping that would comfort her a little.

"I'll...listen to the rest..."
